And this was exactly the attitude of a young boy from the little town of Elmira, in New York, named Thomas but liked to be called just Tommy. Sports, music, unconditional love to denim, the college look and baseball caps… all this together was his inspiration to start his own small business using his life savings of only $150. Bankruptcy came next. But the young entrepreneur did not give up. On the contrary, Tommy enrolled in classes on commerce and business to understand better the fashion industry. Eventually, his perseverance turned into a fashion empire of billionaire global sales. Focusing only on menswear and young customers, Tommy Hilfiger Corporation was founded In 1985 with support from The Murjani Group. In 1996, Tommy Hilfiger Inc. began distributing women's clothing. In 1995 launched the first fragrance, called just Tommy. In 1997 Hilfiger had opened his first store in Beverly Hills. And the business expansion could not be stopped since. Today he still remains the company's principal designer, leading the design teams and overseeing the entire creative process.
